Chapter Events

Keep checking as we are adding new events regularly

CVATD hosts a variety of professional development and networking opportunities throughout the year:

  • Chapter Meetings, facilitated by experienced talent development professionals, provide professional development and networking opportunities. These are held at least every other month from September through May, usually on the second Wednesday of the month.

  • Coffee, Chat, & Contacts (CCC) is an informal gathering with a facilitated discussion over breakfast. This is a great opportunity to learn something new, meet new people, or ask questions. It's also a safe, supportive place to practice your facilitation skills. There is no registration fee, however we ask that you register so we can plan how much space we need and how many handouts to bring.
  • BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) Workshops - BYOL Workshops provide hands-on opportunities to learn new skills or take your current skills to the next level.  Past topics have included Microsoft OneNote and PowerPoint, Articulate Storyline Basics and Storyline Tips and Tricks.
  • Program Certificates and Recertification Points - CVATD can provide you with a certificate of completion for attending our programs at your request. Simply fill out this form and the CVATD team will verify your participation and send you a PDF certificate. This gives you an easy way to keep track of CPTD/APTD recertification points, but also provides you with documentation of attendance should you need or want it for any reason.

Facilitating a CVATD program is a great way to share your talent and expertise. Due to the limited number of speaking engagements available, CVATD gives preference to members of CVATD, ATD, or other ATD chapters.  If you would like to facilitate one of our programs, contact the VP of Programming on the contact page.

A BIG shoutout to our sponsors for helping make our programming happen:

Please join us for a Thursday CCC with Jennifer Grimes

Oh no. It happened again. You stare at your screen thinking, “This doesn’t look quite right. What do I do now?” If you’re like many L&D professionals, you came into the field with little (if any!) background in evidence-based visual design principles. Yet a crucial facet of creating effective online training is designing the interface the learner experiences. If the User Interface (UI) design is poor, the learning experience will be too.

In this session, you’ll learn how to quickly improve your training by using select UI design best practices essential for eLearning — and discover how they align with evidence-based learning theory. We’ll look at “before and after” UI samples to showcase the importance of simplification, consistency, and why proper spacing is so critical. You’ll learn hacks on how to easily and effectively use fonts, the most intuitive way to select color, and how to rely on your own eyes to check for successful interface design.

In this session you will learn:

      • Why simplification, consistency, and proper spacing are evidence-based design decisions for impactful learning.
      • How to easily and effectively use fonts and type styles.
      • How to take the mystery out of HSB color selectors and use them to create rich color palettes.
      • How to use quickly make learner-centric design decisions.

      Presenter - Jennifer Grimes

She is always on the lookout for new ways to make her next training courses better than the last.
