Dear Members,
The year is flying by! I can't believe we are already nearing the end of summer! Coming into the latter months of the year, I'd like to take this opportunity to reflect on the incredible strength of our community and the vital role each of you play in our chapter’s success. Our organization thrives because of the collective energy, passion, and commitment of our members. Whether you're a seasoned professional or new to the industry, your involvement is what makes our chapter vibrant and impactful.
I enjoy seeing each of you at our chapter events, and there are even more ways to get involved and make the most of your membership. Each contribution, no matter how small, helps us grow. From joining a committee to sharing your expertise in a workshop to simply connecting with fellow members, your participation is invaluable. These are more than just opportunities to give back; they are chances to build relationships, develop new skills, and help shape the future of our profession.
In the next few months our board members and volunteers will be forming a Nomination Committee that performs outreach seeking to fill board positions and thus ensure the future success of our chapter. I encourage you to take a moment to consider if you can be more involved in our chapter. If you have an interest in the Nomination Committee, petitioning for election to a Board position, or just learning more about volunteer opportunities, please reach out to me directly at cvatdpresident@gmail.com.
Your unique experiences and perspectives are exactly what we need to continue pushing boundaries and achieving our goals. Together, we can create an even stronger community that supports each other’s growth and success. I wish each of you a wonderful remainder of 2024 and hope that it brings you connection, collaboration, and many accomplishments.
Together in learning,

Derek Hasselbusch
Derek Hasselbusch has worked at Dell for the past 13 years, starting 9 days after I graduated from Ohio University as an Instructional Designer in Global Sales L&D. Derek currently works on the Dell AI curriculum. This keeps him on his toes, as the AI space is ever-changing but he finds the work to be critical. He also leads a team to upskill their Instructional Designers on topics that help improve design skills, such as video editing, Adobe tools, utilizing AI tools to speed development, storytelling, etc.
Derek enjoys problem solving with stakeholders and SMEs to find the best strategy and delivery to enable sellers. He recently won the top design award for a project that was a part of the annual sales kickoff event, where sellers explore the latest messaging and priorities for the year. He is located in Twinsburg and has been working remotely for about 10 years, which really helps since he has two daughters, ages 4 and 6.
How long have you been an ATD member? How long have you been in the talent and development industry?
I have been an ATD member since 2019, when I was looking to network with other L&D professionals and stay up to date on industry trends and technology. I was the VP of Marketing for the Greater Cleveland chapter during that time. It was a great time to get connected as 2020 came, and having a support system helped when we had to pivot to virtual trainings and having people to bounce ideas off of and ask advice was critical during a tough time.
What is your favorite part about fall in Ohio?
The food! Chili, clam bakes, crock pot meals, pumpkin pie and pumpkin spice coffee.
Why did you join CVATD?
I joined CVATD because I want to stay up to date on the latest trends and technology in the L&D space, but I also would like to network with local L&D professionals in the NEO region. The CV chapter looked to have a wide array of ongoing and different types of events, both in-person and virtual that fits my need from an topics area and logistics standpoint.
